What are Behavioural Difficulties?

Behavioural difficulties encompass a range of disruptive behaviours that are difficult to control and interfere with daily functioning and relationships. Common manifestations include anger outbursts, aggression, defiance, impulsivity, and difficulties in emotional regulation. These behaviours often present alongside underlying issues such as stress, trauma (physical, mental, and/or emotional), or mental health disorders. Addressing behavioural difficulties in psychotherapy often involves exploring potential root causes, developing coping strategies, and implementing behavioral interventions to foster alternative responses. Behavioural interventions can include developing an understanding of triggers, learning effective communication techniques, as well as other skills to manage and express difficult behaviours.
